New Beginnings!

I love New Year’s Day and the month of  September. I guess it’s because I like to start afresh with new writing supplies. I love my 2010 day planner and it’s a treat to find other office stuff to help me focus on my writing. I  love paper, stickies, high-lighters, journals, notebooks, and recipe cards.

I feel the same excitement in September.  In fact, for a long time, September was the start of my year. Even though I’m no longer working in schools, I still enjoy that September exhileration of launching into something new.

I love New Year’s because I remember that anything is possible. Anything. And goals are the way to go. Somehow the whole concept of a goal seems more attainable than a resolution. I guess I’ve broken enough resolutions to not want to ‘go there’.

I am working on my goals today and certainly most involve writing. However, my key word for this year is ‘balance’. When my life is balanced then I’m able to observe, able to make better sense of my world and able to write.

So for my friends out there – if you need to remind me – BALANCE is my mantra for the year.

What are you thinking about as we approach the new year?

Balance – I like it! I need to balance my goals too. I figure the perfect balance is 50% so if I make 50% of my goals then I’ve attain perfect balance. Works for me!!!
Okay Okay, I’ll double my goals…huh??

Yes!!! Balance. Also, I want to set goals that I know are obtainable. In the past I have set goals for myself that I knew when I made them that they weren’t possible to obtain. As for resolutions, I never make them. I figure if it is something I would like to change then I just do it….yeah, sure, lol.

Happy New Year, Jodie. I hear you, about balance. I firmly believe in that, too. The only problem is, I either need someone to give me more hours in the day, or to clone me. LOL. Good luck to all of us in living healthy, productive, happy and balanced lives.

  4. Thanks for the word Jodie! We all need balance in our lives and I agree that anything is possible, if we work at it. My problem is I lapse or give up on things too soon. Sometimes I get it into my head that something is too hard to work at, or is impossible, so then I lose out. I need to find friends who will help keep me motivated.

My New Years resolution is to find a mold free home, as I’m fed up of CONSTANTLY being sick because of the damp and mold where I am. It seems this last couple of years there’s been nothing in my price range. I kept telling myself, “one day, one day…” The feelings I’m having in this rental these past 2 yrs is a far cry from when I used to own a house. (Oh, I must shud up moaning..lol…it won’t get me anywhere.)

    I hope everyone has a wonderful 2010!

I just read a tiny bit of Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh and she writes about how hard it is to find balance, even though we’re reaching out in all directions to do the things we (she’s talking about women, but it could be anyone) need to do: family, house, job, school, friends, community…
(And she wrote it in 1955! Things haven’t changed.)

To me, it seems we have to pretty balanced if we’re spread out in all directions like that. But it’s when we pull in, extend ourselves in fewer directions, that we seem to *feel* more balanced (and by “We” I mean “I”:)).

Or maybe it’s not just the number of tasks and commitments and people we look after, it’s whether we include ourselves on the list that matters.

So I’m going to treat myself as well as my friends do, and I hope you all are as kind to yourselves as I would be.
