What’s coming around the corner?

This is the time of year when I always ponder and reflect on the events of the previous year. It’s my way of assessing what has taken place. And like everyone that I know my life has been a series of valleys and mountains. Unexpected events were challenging. I don’t want to dwell on the negative or even summarize what took place, as many of my friends have experienced a rough ride. Whether they discuss it publicly or not is a separate issue.

Dividing my year into distinct sections

Because I worked in school settings for many years, the beginning of my life was always September. My days were spent absorbing and riding the waves of meeting new parents, kids and staff members. Heady times. Looking back, I don’t know how I survived it. Youth I suspect can carry you a long way.

Facing a New Year

Regardless of what I was doing or where I was in the world, welcoming the New Year has always been exciting for me. I was one of those kids who begged to stay up late so that I could watch the magical ball drop in New York City. I still enjoy watching television as the fireworks go off around the world.

Baja Midnight

As an older person, I sometimes don’t make it until midnight. Many years ago, while camping in the Baja, most of our festivities were completed by 9:00 p.m. And that’s the way it is today. We celebrate with champagne and toast the fact that we are still able to celebrate with friends. There is a layer of sadness as well as we remember people who are no longer with us.

Resolutions

Do I make them? Oh yes. Privately. Just for me. They are my touchstones. My personal reminders that even though I’m trying to be the best I can be, I am a flawed human being. But I can challenge myself to do better. So with that thought, enjoy your New Year’s Eve with family and friends.

Have a fabulous New Year’s Eve!

    1. You are correct Jacquie! As I age, my resolutions are more focused on my family and their health and well-being. And that’s just fine! Thanks so much for dropping by. I truly appreciate it.
